0615.png

The chart compares the total number of attendants between four different sports from 1985 to 2005, measured in a specific region.

In the overview, it is evident that the total basketball and badminton players remained quite stable throughout the period. Conversely, the figure of tennis and rugby experienced significant fluctuations.

In 1985, rugby was the most popular sport with nearly 250 people taking part in, followed by tennis with 150 players. Basketball and Badminton were left behind, with approximately 80 and 50 attendants respectively.

In the following 10 years, there were more people playing tennis, while that number of rugby saw constant drops. By 1995, Tennis eventually caught up with Rugby, and the both shared the same number of players at 200. The next decade continued to observe the similar trend. Rugby's total attendants continuously declined, decreasing from 200 to 50 and becoming one of the least popular sports in 2005. Conversely, tennis continued to see more people coming, reaching totally 225 players.

Whether or not someone achieves their aims is mostly by a question of luck. To what extent do you agree or not agree?

It is believe that someone's achievements mostly depend on their luck. In this essay, I will discuss that perspective and give my view.

On the one hand, I agree that luck is a vitally important factor of success. In the view of statistics and probability, it is nearly impossible to completely predict an event in the future. In other words, there will always be uncertainty in even the most calculated plans. Thus, luck has always been worshipped and viewed as a gift from the spiritual world throughout the history of many nation

On the other hand, I do not believe that someone's success is merely dependent on the question of luck. In the long run, merely luck-based success will not stay with those who get it. For example, in the history of lottery, we have seen many people immediately become millionaires, then quickly spend all of their money and back to live in poverty. One of the reasons is that they do not pay the cost for success and simply take it for granted. Success, in my opinion, is a by-product of many things: self-determination, hard-working, creative mindset, not merely luck. Thomas Edison's inventions were not lucky, they were the results of a constantly hard-working, self-determining and creative mind. On top of that, it is more motivating for the young generation to rely on themselves, instead of totally leaving for luck, because all they have control is their time and their attitudes.

In conclusion, I do not agree that one's success is mostly by a question of luck. Nevertheless, I strongly encourage people to rely on themselves in order to achieve their goals.

The graph shows the annual income of languages-related jobs in US dollars in five cities.
w1706.jpg

The graph compares the income of different languages-related occupations between five cities, measured in US dollar.

In the overview, Munich is the city that observes the biggest inequality, while these jobs get paid quite equally in Mexico.

It is evident that interpreter is the highest paying occupation among the five cities. The job gets paid the most in Toronto, at 80,000 US dollars, and it earns the least in Mexico, with only under 20,000 US dollars. The differences between income of this job in Dubai, Paris and Munich is quite insignificant, ranging from 60,000 to 75,000 US dollars.

In Paris and Munich, it is noticeable that language teachers earn the lowest wages, with only 45,000 and 60,000 USD respectively. Conversely, the job is among the highest paying occupations in Mexico and Dubai - a teacher herein can earn approximately 20,000 USD and 60,000 USD respectively. Surprisingly, despite being considered as the least paying job in Toronto, it actually earns the most compared to the similar positions in other cities, as one can earn upto 65,000 US dollars.

In some countries, online shopping is replacing shopping in stores. Do you think it is a positive or negative development?

In many parts of the globe, online shopping has gradually replaced in-store shopping. In this essay, I will discuss the positive impacts of each way and give my opinion.

To begin with, it is worth considering the benefits of the traditional shopping habit. Firstly, buyers can actually visit the stores and physically test the products before making buying decisions. This is vitally important for certain products, such as clothes or cooking materials, as it is nearly impossible to do the check online. Secondly, sellers might get into troubles trying to scam their buyers, as the store owners have to register their brands and get certified from legalised organisations before launching the businesses. Last but not least, it also boosts tourists attraction, as these local stores could visually demonstrate the national cultures through their structures and decoration. In Hoi An, one of most visited places in Vietnam, the local well-reserved houses are served as stores for tourists to visit and buy local products.

However, it is undeniable that e-commerce has changed the entire economy in a positive way. It provides a cheaper platform for retailers to seamlessly establish their businesses, creating a more free and equal market. Consumers now can buy a product at a lower cost with faster delivery. On top of that, one can actually buy any product internationally. The rise of China recently is partly due to the creation of e-commerce which grants local businesses the ability to compete with companies globally.

In conclusion, the shift from in-store shopping toward online shopping is more beneficial to the development.

The chart below show the number of magazines sold per person in five countries in 2003 and 2005, with projected sales for 2007.

Summarize the information by describing the main features of the charts and making comparisons where appropriate.

t10107.png

The graph provides information about B2C magazines sales in five different nations from 2003 to 2005, with predictive numbers for 2007.

In the overview, three out of five countries experienced a drop in the reported period and are projected to remain the trend in 2007. Conversely, country D and E had an increase in the years and both expected to continue their rises.

In 2003, country A and B had the highest revenue, at roughly 50 magazines sold per person. Conversely, country E had 10 times lower magazine sales compared to the top nations, with only 5 magazines. In 2005, while country A and country B both observed a drop in their revenues, decreasing to approximately 44 and 46 respectively, country E saw a slight increase, reaching its all time high at around 7.

In 2007, the top selling nations, despite being expected to see a drop, will continue to have the highest revenues. Additionally, while country D predictively will reach its all time high at nearly 22 magazines, country E will see an slight drop back to the figure in 2005.

Some people think that too much money has been spent looking after and repairing old buildings, so we should knock down old buildings and build modern ones instead. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It is highly controversial whether we should spend on preserving and fixing old constructions or alternatively construct new modern buildings. In this essay, I will discuss the positive impacts of each approach and give my opinion.

To begin with, it is worth considering the benefits of leveraging the old construction. One of the obvious benefits is that we can save time and money. Instead of building from the ground up, we can simply repair the broken parts and renew exterior and interior decoration, which are clearly less time-consuming and cheaper. On top of that, the government does not have to deal with an sudden increasing residential demand for those live in these buildings, as the process could be executed partly.

On the other hand, constructing new modern buildings is also beneficial for society in many different aspects. Firstly, some buildings are basically not safe enough so that people have to decide to knock them down for a completely new one. Secondly, it is technically more convenient for engineers and contructors to implement new high-tech building facilities, such as artificial intelligent cameras, fire detection system or two-sides elevators, that can boost the living quality of residents. Last but not least, some old buildings often centrally locates in centre areas that are not ideal for their citizens due to traffic jams and poor surrounded facilities. By building new ones, the governing organizations could flexibly move their citizens into a better and well-organized areas.

In conclusion, it highly depends on the current status of each building in order to decide whether a preservation or new construction is more beneficial.

The charts below show the performance of a bus company in terms of punctuality, both actual and target (what actually happened compared to what the company was trying to achieve), and the number of complaints and passengers.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

T10607.jpg

The graphs provide information about the effectiveness of a transportation company from 1999 to 2003.

In the overview, the firm constantly lowered its target punctuality throughout the period. Additionally, the total number of passengers having unsatisfied experience about the service had the tendency to increase continuously.

Examining the punctuality, in 1999, the company had 85% buses arriving on time, only 1% away from its target. However, the next year's figure observed a significant drop, decreasing drastically to 82%, leading to a gap of 4% between actual and target. In the following 3 years, this number increased back to over 84% and fluctuated around this point. In 2003, the firm eventually managed to overly achieve its yearly target, partly due to the modification in the target.

Looking at the satisfaction survey, the company initially received only 65 complaints in 1999. However, in the next 4 years, the total number of people complaining about the quality climbed constantly, reaching 120 by 2003.

Many students find it difficult to concentrate or pay attention at school. What are the reasons? What could be done to solve this problem?

There is an increasing number of school students reported to have difficulties paying attention in classes. In this essay, I will discuss the possible reasons behind this phenomenon and provide solution.

To start with, it is worth considering the psychological causes of this problem in our children. Firstly, children currently have spent increasing time on technological entertainments, such as short video contents or online video games, because of the ease and comfort of these behaviors as smartphones and internet are getting more affordable. This results in a deficit in cognitive functions among younger generation, making it harder for them to concentrate on less attractive things like learning, studying or playing sports. Additionally, parents living in modern world cannot spend as much time for their children, causing the kids to subconsciously form an closer relation with their smart devices. It is reported that there is a strong correlation between the amount of hours a kid spend on smart devices and the possibility of it having mental conditions, such as ADHD.

According to its causes, there are many possible solutions for the problem. One of the most obvious solutions is that parents should spend more time with the kids on interactive and communicative activities. This will potentially separate the kids with their smart devices and improve their mental functions. Furthermore, the couples can together with the children revise their school lessons, making it more enjoyable for them to go to school and boost their concentration during classes.

In conclusion, having interacted with smart devices and being constantly exposed to technological entertaining products potentially cause the lack of concentration among kids. Therefore, parents should dedicate more time with their children to reverse and improve their cognitive ability.

The diagram shows the components of a neuron and how it works
Noron.png

The diagram describes the structure of a nervous cell and provides function of each part.

In the overview, a neuron is made up of five major parts. Additionally, nervous cells connect with each other to form a chain.

Examining the structure of a nervous cell, in the head of a neuron, there is cell body and dendrites. The dendrites function is to connect with other cells and receive the information, which is in a form of a electrical signal. Moving down to the middle of the cell locating a chain of axons. These axons collectively play as a logistic system that transmits the information received from the cell body and delivers it to the expected destinations, which are the other neurons, muscles or glands.

Coming to the end of the cell seeing a collection of terminal buttons. These buttons are act as the bridges between the delivers senders and the receivers. In other words, they connect with the dendrites of the other cells to broadcast the electrical signal and keep the process going.

With the improvements in today’s health care, society has to care for more and more elderly people.

Do you feel that society will be able to cope with the increase in numbers of elderly people today and how can it be managed?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Modern world has been experiencing an increasing number of old people having their lives solely relied on health care. This raises a question whether the current system would be sufficient to take care of these elderly. In this essay, I will discuss the current capability of our system and propose some possible improvement ideas.

The modern health care system could be simply divided into two major sectors: the private and the public. The private sector obviously does not see this phenomenon as a threat. As long as there still be people in need, there will be more health care service providers coming to the market and fill the gap. However, due to the expensiveness of these services, elderly individuals tend to heavily rely on the public and here is where the problem starts to itch. As public sector is sponsored through the tax collected by the government from its citizens, an increasing in the number of old people will lead to lower tax collections, and simultaneously increasing the demand for the service, posing a threat to the public health care system

One possible solution is to increase budget for the public sector. By increasing the base salary for public health care employees, elderly people will be better taken care of. Additionally, the public services can implement new technologies that boost the effectiveness of their process. Governments can also extend the reach of private service simply by providing a financial aid in a form of a low-interest loan. Therefore, private companies can provide their services at a lower cost.

In conclusion, by applying the proposed solutions, I believe that a nation could deal with the increasing in the number of elderly people replying on health care services.

The diagram below shows how cheese is made.
T20807.png

The illustration demonstrates cheese production process.

In the overview, cheese is originally made from milk and the process contains nine major steps transforming raw milk to packaged products.

The first step is acidification, where raw milk and bacteria are collectively stored in a specialized bottle. With tenzyme added, there will be chemical interaction between the mixed and they will gradually solidify into a solid form called curds. Cheese makers will break these curds into smaller pieces and liquidify them through heating and draining. Salt will be added into the liquid to bring the unique taste of cheese.

After this step, we already have cheese in the form of liquid. The makers will put it into a shaping machine, then keep the result in a safe place and wait for two months until it totally gets fermentated. Eventually, we have cheese that is already consumable, and ready to be packaged and delivered to retailers.

Music play an important role in society, others think it is simply a form of entertainment for individuals. Discuss both views and give your opinion

It is highly debatable whether music is essential for the development of society or solely an individual way of entertaiment. In this essay, I will discuss the both perspectives and give my own conclusion.

To begin with, it is worth considering the important role of music in society. The modern world has witnessed endless conflicts and wars, even from people living in the same border. With music, humanity can be unified as it has the capability of connecting people regardless of their nationalities, cultures or races. It is easy to find thousands of people with different backgrounds standing, singing and dancing together in a music festival. On top of that, music has recently been recognized as a billion industry and brought a lot of profits for the national budgets. Korea has succeeded in promoting K-POP internationally. The country has many world-wide recognized bands, which helps boost the national cultural image and attract tourists. Last but not least, listening to music is proved to have benefis for the development of children. It is reported that toddlers having frequently exposured to music often grow up with more neuron connections formed in their brains.

On the other hand, music is also important in the individual scale. It helps people to express their ideas and feelings. In the late 20th century, rap was created by a group of black people living in the US. At first, it was underrated by the mainstream and only the people within the community enjoyed this genre. Clearly, it was a tool for the unfortunate to share their problems and get over the harsh of their life.

In conclusion, music not only is a way for individual to express their feelings but also helps one country to boost its national image and attract visitors.

The demonstration describes the structure of a basic water filter and how it processes to generate drinkable water.

In the overview, the water-filter assembly composes of two different parts: one is designed to clean the water and the other is for storing safe water.

Examining the first part of the machine, there is a plastic barrel with a multi-layers filter inside it. This filter consists of three major layers made from different materials: the top layer is sand, the middle layer is charcoal and the bottom layer is gravel. The second part is simply a large plastic bottle arranged slightly lower than the first one. The two get connected through a tube, with one of its ends locates at the bottom of the filtering part.

When water is poured into the first barrel, it gradually passes through the three-layers filter and sinks at the bottom. Clean drinking water is then drawn into the second one through the tube. After that, people can drink the liquid stored inside this barrel.

The use of mobile phone is as antisocial as smoking. Smoking is banned in certain places so mobile phone should be banned like smoking. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It is highly controversial whether the use mobile phones should be considered as antisocial and be restricted in specific places. In my opinion, I strongly disagree this perspective.

To begin with, it is worth considering why some people hold such beliefs. Technological development has created a digital world where users can get access to plenty of entertaining resources with just a few clicks. Consequently, people increasingly prefer getting another dopamine hit through their phones and internet access rather than engaging in deep, meaningful conversations with those around them. Strangely enough, some young people even admit that their phones have become an extension of their bodies. In response to this trend, some special coffee shops prohibit phones and tablets usage, and visitors intentionally choose these places to have meaningful conversations with their friends.

However, this type of behavior should not be equated with smoking for a variety of reasons. Firstly, one using their phones does not negatively effect the health of surrounders, though it might be irritating if that person is a member of your group engaging in certain activities together. On the other hand, it is reported that frequently exposure to smoke increases one's risk of health problems. Secondly, the increasing demand for digital apps, such as digital payments, emailing or finding directions, is undeniable. Therefore, banning people from using their phones in certain places is not appropriate and will only discourage them coming to such areas.

In my opinion, the use of mobile phone should not be considered as antisocial and should not be forbidden. However, one should control their usage time and pay attention to people around them.
